Valley Springs, CA...Thanksgiving Day many families showed up bright and early in the cold morning at the Valley Springs Youth Center to raise money for the Food Bank by running in the second annual Turkey Trot sponsored by the Valley Springs Optimist Club. “We received almost $1200.00 and some canned food from the Turkey Trot this year. Carol Crosby did a great job organizing the event and we are thankful that the Valley Springs Optimist Club again sponsored the event. The Valley Springs Youth Center served hot ......

"Meeting with public works on Friday went well. We clarified the $1.5 Million didn’t have to be spent. Apparently any money that is not declared “in the budget” can’t be used, or is more difficult to use if needs be, so in turn they declare as a default that all current and rollover monies are to be available by formally “budgeting” them even without a specific project mandate. Still scratching my head a little on the inherent logical or illogical nature of that line of reasoning, but we are talking about government, so I guess that explains it!....

Valley Springs, CA...On Thanksgiving morning Valley Springs Youth Center hosted the second annual Turkey Trot. The frosty morning weather did not deter the approximately 80 Calaveras County Residents who came out to do their part to help their local Resource Connection Food Bank. The event, sponsored by the Valley Springs Optimist Club, also attracted participants from as far as Elk Grove. Runners/walkers chose between a 1 mile or a 5K (3.1 mi) fast and flat course.....

Valley Springs, CA...This morning at about 1am Deputies responded to the 200 block of South Petersburg Road in Valley Springs, for a burglary in progress. The home owner woke to two unknown male suspects inside their residence. The suspects fled the residence with property belonging to the home owner. Sgt. Fordahl and his K-9 partner from Angels Camp Police Department responded and tracked the suspects to the Hogan Lake area...

San Andreas, CA...The 2010 Calaveras Redskins football season is becoming one for the history books of local sports exploits. They head to round 3 of the playoff against Union Mine next Friday night. Tonight they rolled a very good Livingston team in convincing fashion. Livingston had a long, wet and cold ride back down the hill on the losing end of a 21-7 score. Congratulations Calaveras and good luck next week!!
