Chips for Kids Toy Drive 2018

San Andreas, CA...The California Highway Patrol and Santa’s Express, are once again, teaming up for the annual CHiPs for Kids Toy Drive. The toys will be given to hospitalized and disadvantaged children in Calaveras County just before the Christmas holiday. You can help by bringing new, unwrapped, toys which will be donated to Santa’s Express. CHiPs for Kids collection barrels have been placed around the county at various locations. Toys will be collected until Thursday, December 13, 2018. Collection barrels are at the following locations: California Highway Patrol – San Andreas. Angels Camp Business Association – Angels Camp. Bistro Espresso – Arnold. CHP/Sheriff’s Sub-Station – Arnold. Young’s Payless Market IGA – Copperopolis. Treats General Store – San Andreas. Common Grounds – Valley Springs.

Board of Supervisors Adopt Design Review for Mokelumne Hill

San Andreas, CA...The Calaveras County Board of Supervisors adopted an ordinance to add Chapter 17.52 of the Calaveras County Code to provide for a design review process for Mokelumne Hill. The design review process provides for planning director approval of specified development consistent with the Mokelumne Hill Design Guidelines. A negative declaration was adopted by the Board of Supervisors.

Out of Control Juvenile Triggers Temporary Lockdown at Calaveras High School

San Andreas, CA....From the Calaveras Sheriff's Dept..."On 11-13-18 at about 1251 hours CCSO Deputies were dispatched to Calaveras High School in San Andreas for a report of an out of control juvenile being aggressive on campus. It was reported that the juvenile possibly had a knife. The Sheriff's Office was informed that the school was placed on lock down as a precautionary measure. Deputies have been on campus and the juvenile has been contacted. No knives or other weapons were located on the juvenile. The situation is being resolved and there is no ongoing threat to students or staff."

San Andreas, CA...BOARD OF SUPERVISORS NOTICE OF PUBLIC HEARING. LEAD AGENCY: Calaveras County Planning Department, 891 Mountain Ranch Rd., San Andreas, CA 95249. 2018-044 GPA/ZA – General Plan Amendment to remove Planned Development combining land use designation and Zoning Amendment to remove the Planned Development combining zone and to add the Design Review combining zone: Calaveras County is proposing to amend the Mokelumne Hill Community Plan to remove the Planned Development (PD) Combining Land Use Designation from 102 parcels. A Zoning Amendment is proposed to remove the PD combining zone from the same parcels, add the Design Review (DR) Combining Zone to 100 of those parcels and 17 additional parcels as shown in the map below. A negative declaration has been prepared.

Mountain Ranch Area Property Targeted for Cleanup

Mountain Ranch, CA...From the Calaveras Sheriff Dept..."On October 26, 2018, the Calaveras County Sheriff’s Office Investigations Unit contacted several people in the area of Ponderosa Way near Doster Way in Mountain Ranch. The area was strewn with trash and vehicles, and a 30 foot travel trailer was parked on Ponderosa Road and being lived out of. Additionally, Investigators noted the presence of burned piles of trash, liquid waste, and petroleum products on the ground. The area was located directly above a year-round creek which flows directly into the Mokelumne River Watershed, and the violations were occurring directly on a public roadway and on the border of public land.

Angels Camp, CA...During our webcast last night the Bret Harte lost Friday's home conference game against Sonora by a score of 47-7. Argonaut took Friday's home conference game against Summerville 28-0. Calaveras tomahawked Amador in a close home win 29 - 27. We have complete game video from our webcast below of the Bret Harte vs Sonora. Also included is the last quarter of the JV game where Sonoro went home with a victory as well.

San Andreas, CA...Thirty artists in nineteen locations throughout Calaveras County will open their homes and studios and display their artwork during the Calaveras County Arts Council Artists Studio Tour on September 22-23. The self-guided tour, free and open to the public, is an opportunity to meet the artists face-to-face, learn about their artwork, and discover treasures you will want to take home. PG&E Helicopter Patrols in Amador, Calaveras and Tuolumne counties

Angels Camp, CA...Given the dramatic wildfire threat our communities face this year, PG&E is taking immediate action to ensure the safety of our customers, their neighborhoods and the surrounding community. PG&E Vegetation Management Crews are taking urgent action to create even greater safety clearances between trees and power lines in neighborhoods and communities that face the most extreme wildfire-threat. To support this effort, PG&E will be using helicopters to patrol electric lines in areas of Amador, Calaveras and Tuolumne counties that are in extreme fire threat areas defined by the CPUC High Fire Threat map.
