Student Detained at Calaveras High School after He Reportedly Talked of Bringing Gun to School |

San Andreas, CA...Today, 3-6-18, Calaveras County Sheriff’s Office Deputies responded to the Calaveras High School located in San Andreas for a report that a student had mentioned bringing a firearm to campus. It was reported that during a discussion regarding lock down drills and school safety, the 15 year old male student was heard making statements similar to “I guess I better not bring a gun that day”. This same student was overheard talking about guns in another conversation. School staff was made aware of the comments and notified the Sheriff’s Office.

San Andreas, CA...Calaveras County students in fourth through twelfth grades will showcase their scientific experiments and demonstrations at the 33nd Annual Calaveras County Science Fair on Saturday, March 10, 2018, at the Calaveras River Academy/Mountain Oaks School gymnasium at 150 Old Oak Road, San Andreas. The Science Fair is funded in part by a grant from the Teichert Foundation. The public is invited to explore Science Fair projects from 9-9:45am and the demonstration area throughout the morning.

Winter Weather Advisory Prompts Calaveras Transit Route Changes |

San Andreas, CA – February 28, 2018 – Adverse weather conditions expected in higher elevations will affect the Calaveras Transit Blue Line. The National Weather Service is indicating blizzard like conditions from the early evening of February 28 until late evening March 3. Increased levels of snow and up to thirty-eight mile an hour winds are expected in the higher elevations.

Arnold, CA....A series of cold winter storms will bring periods of heavy snow and gusty winds to the foothills and mountains of interior NorCal later this week. Snow may begin as early as Wednesday afternoon and continue through the weekend. Several feet of snowfall accumulation is expected in the mountains with up to a foot possible across some foothill locations. Portions of the northern Sacramento Valley, including Redding, may see accumulating snow Thursday night and Friday. Any planning travel across the foothills or mountains later this week should stay in touch with the latest forecasts.

41 Year Old Wilsyville Woman & 69 Year Old Glencoe Man Passed Away in Hwy 26 Head on Collision |

Glencoe, CA...On February 23, 2018, at approximately 1515 hours, CHP San Andreas units responded to a traffic collision on SR-26 at Ponderosa Way in Glencoe. The investigating officers determined that Party 1# was driving her 2013 Hyundai SR-26 eastbound approaching Ponderosa Way. Party #2 was driving his 1985 Toyota SR-26 westbound approaching Ponderosa Way and for an unknown reason, Party #1 allowed her vehicle to travel into the westbound lane of SR-26 directly into the path of Party #2. The front of the two vehicles collided. As a result of the collision, both parties sustained fatal injuries at the scene.

San Andreas, CA...Volunteers with the American Red Cross in the Calaveras, Tuolumne, and Amador counties are organizing a community outreach event focused on safety and preparedness. On average, the American Red Cross Gold Country Region responds to home fires every eight hours. In addition to home fires, volunteers in the region respond to flooding, wildfires, lightning strikes, and more. Being prepared can help save lives.

Transitional Kindergarten and Kindergarten Enrollment Packets Available at CUSD Elementary Schools February 21 |

San Andreas, CA...Transitional Kindergarten (TK) is the first year of a two-year kindergarten program. (The first year being Transitional Kindergarten and the second year a more traditional Kindergarten program.) Students may enroll in a Transitional Kindergarten program if they are five years old on September 2 through December 2. Children must be five years old prior to September 2 to enroll in traditional Kindergarten. Parents and guardians may optionally enroll their age-eligible child in a Transitional Kindergarten program. Transitional Kindergarten and Kindergarten enrollment packets will be available at Calaveras Unified School District elementary schools beginning February 21, 2018. The deadline for returning the packets is April 6, 2018. If you have any questions, please call the school.
