Columbia College Community Chorus Concerts are April 23 and 24

Columbia, CA...The Columbia College Community Chorus, conducted by Dr. Daryl Hollinger, will perform its annual Spring concert in the sanctuary of St. Matthew Lutheran Church on Saturday evening, April 23rd, at 7:30 p.m., and again on Sunday afternoon, April 24th, at 3:00 p.m. The first half of this varied spring program features three of Dr. Hollinger's original Psalm settings and the famous Mass in G by Franz Schubert for chorus, soprano, tenor and bass soloists with chamber orchestra. After a short intermission, the 43-member chorus will perform a lively group of well-known choruses from stage and opera: The popular Va, pensiero, from Verdi’s Nabucco, choruses from Borodin’s Prince Igor, Gounod’s Faust, and Verdi’s Il Travatore. A choral medley from Fiddler on the Roof and an audience sing-along from The Sound of Music are also on the program. A special treat will be three songs from Shakespeare's plays set by jazz great George Shearing.
Vehicle Collision, Injuries & DUI Arrest Proves 17 Year Old Sonora Man Needs Another 15 Minutes Presentation

Tuolumne, CA....On April 7th at 12:25am a 17 year old Sonora man was driving a 1996 Chevy Silvarado southbound on Mi Wu Street south of Seven Pines Road. The driver was unable to maintain his vehicle and drove off the roadway, down an embankment colliding with several trees. The minor exited the vehicle and fled the scene of the collision with one of the passengers. The other two passengers stayed with the vehicle until emergency personnel arrived on scene. As Officer Lopez and Officer Dillon were on scene investigating the collision, the driver who had already been identified, returned to the scene. The driver was determined to be under the influence of alcohol and arrested for felony driving under the influence and felony hit and run.

Groveland, CA...The Groveland Ranger District is planning to conduct an understory burn this month and as soon as next week, weather and fuels conditions permitting. The burn area is located approximately 4 miles NE of Greeley Hill, along Forest road 1S29, 2S28, and 2S17, encompassing approximately 546 acres. The area will be treated with low-intensity fire, accomplishing approximately 50 acres daily. Smoke may be visible from Smith Station Road, with some down canyon drift smoke visible in the evening and early morning...
Caltrans Begins Clearing & Prepping Passes For Summer Openings

Pinecrest, CA...The California Department of Transportation (Caltrans) is scheduled to begin its spring clearing of State Route 108 (SR-108) over Sonora Pass today, removing snow, clearing debris, inspecting the roadway and making the appropriate improvements to ensure the public’s safety. The department intends to open the closure gates at Eagle Meadows and Kennedy Meadows after reaching those points on SR-108.

Sonora, CA...Late this morning around 11:30 A.M., Deputy Yorston was patrolling in East Sonora when he saw a Mitsubishi Lancer driving towards him. Deputy Yorston recognized the vehicle and the driver from having previous law enforcement contacts with him. Deputy Yorston recognized the driver as being Wayne Dunlap a 26 year old Sonora man who is an unlicensed driver and who currently has a warrant for his arrest.
