Copperopolis, CA...In the olden days, a farmer growing corn would save a portion of the harvest as seed corn to plant next year. He didn’t have to do this; he could eat the seed corn. But, if he ate the seed corn, there would be no crop next year and the family would suffer.

San Andreas, CA....Dear Judge Martin: The 2012-2013 Civil Grand Jury, in accordance with Penal Code Section 933(a), respectfully submits its Final Report to the Calaveras County Superior Court. This jury has gone about its work enthusiastically, with good humor and an amazing ability to support each other through many unexpected difficulties. Some have been specific to their tasks as Jurors while others were personal. It has been a unique experience for us all. 19 diverse Calaveras County individuals, chosen by lottery, have become colleagues, investigators, report writers and friends all in the space of one year....

Murphys, CA...Due to maintenance and repaving of our parking area at Murphys Square, Murphys Nursery will be closed Monday and Tuesday, June 24 and 25. Irish Vineyards wins top awards & awards on all wines entered at the California State Fair, Lodi International & Orange County Fair. |

Vallecito, CA....Irish vineyards entered only three competitions this year. All wines entered at all events won Bronze or better. Russell Irish /Irish Vineyards Also took top awards at two of the competitions. The Lodi International competition awarded Irish three awards - Best of Class and Platinum award on our 2010 Barbera, also Duct Tape won Silver and our 2008 Malbec took a Bronze award. Vice versa in the State fair - Irish Vineyards took Best of Region in Our 2010 Malbec with a 94 Point Gold award, Best of region on our Kilkenny Red (our first ever competition entered for this wine) and a 94 pt Gold, We also took a 94 pt Gold with our 2010 Zinfandel and a 89 pt Silver for our 2010 Barbera....

San Andreas, CA...The Mother Lode Summer Madness 3-on-3 basketball tournament will be held Saturday, August 10 at Calaveras High School. The tournament is open to all players and will feature the following divisions for boys and girls: Elementary (up to sixth grade); Middle School (seventh and eighth graders); JV (ninth and 10th graders); Varsity (11th and 12th graders); as well as a new Open division for adults 18 and older....
