Posted by: John_Hamilton on 03/18/2013 02:01 AM
Murphys, CA...We have about 400 photos in our photo album from this years Irish Day. It was a great day for one of the Coolest Small Towns in America and believe it or not according to some publications the only town in California deemed worthy of a retirement destination. The photos were taken in the morning of and right after the parade and a second batch as the day was winding down. These photos from later in the day contain many of the individual and people shots and action and parade shots are later in the album. Video of the parade is enclosed as well quite a few random clips. Local Kids dancing the Plan B Jig, Bag Pipes, Irish Hip Hop and more....

Murphys, CA...Clark Robert Burton, DDS died Saturday, March 2, 2013. He was 90. Doctor Burton was born May 14, 1922 in Berkeley, CA and was raised in Concord, CA. A member of the first cub scout pack in the US, he went on to reach his Eagle Scout and Sea Scout. He studied chemistry at UC Berkeley (Cal). His ROTC group went to basic training and came back as army students living on the campus in army uniforms. He served in WWII as a navigator on the B-24 and later the B-29 for the Army Air Corp. When the war in Europe ended, he returned to UC Berkeley to complete his chemistry degree. Clark was vacationing at the Cal ski lodge when he met Carol Guild. They graduated and married in 1947. He was hired by Shell Chemical in Martinez, CA as a chemist where he worked for 7 years. Clark changed careers and attended UCSF and got his doctorate in dental surgery in 1958. He moved the family to Calaveras County to start his dental practice. The first location of his practice was in Altaville, and later moved to Murphys. Doctor Burton retired in 1986...

Irish Day 2013...Even the Leprechauns Were Large

Posted by: John_Hamilton on 03/16/2013 10:08 PM
Murphys, CA...Well the Irish proved Luck O' the Irish" was more than just a saying as the Murphys Business Association should be patting themselves on the back with their very tired hands. Murphys was Packed today. We walked from end to end on Main Street right after the parade this morning and it was wall to the wall. Many people were only there for a few hours so the entire crowd probably turned a time or two today. The shuttle from Ironstone was doing a brisk business as well. By my very unofficial estimate crowds were well over 10,000 for the day. We took over 1,800 and many of those should never see the light of day but when we have them sorted we should have several hundred for you. Below is video from todays parade with a couple of teaser photos..
