Angels Camp, CA...Last Monday night CAMPS Restaurant at Greenhorn was as full as you will ever see it. Table after table overflowed with friends, constituents, former colleagues, on had to celebrated an incredible career in public service for Retired Supervisor Tom Tryon. For 7 terms Tom Represented his district and did it well. His greatest pride is seeing what Murphys has developed into. The Libertarian Supervisor saw Murphys as a prime example of creating an environment were capital and investment can thrive with as little restrictions from Government as possible. Tom was not afraid to takes stands on principal and some of his comments from the bench before votes were mini civics lessons. The rancher exterior hid from immediate view the mind that was trained at UC Berkley in Economics....

Murphys, Ca...The staff at Michelson Elementary School couldn't help but to express how LUCKY they feel to have Mr. Brett Loring as their site Principal. 1st grade teacher gave some words of thanks and appreciation of behalf of the entire Trojan Team for his outstanding leadership and support during the recent Week of the Administrator. Besides his passion for children, Brett has a special love of the local high country outdoors so a set of scenic Ebbetts Pass posters were framed and presented to him to adorn his "BLUE" office.

Mary Dutton Waldron Smith (1917-2013)

Murphys, CA...Mrs. Mary Dutton Waldron Smith, wife of Dr. Milton Benjamin Smith of Murphys, passed peacefully into eternity on Friday, February 22nd, in her home in Murphys and in the presence of family members who loved and cared for her over the last years of her life. Born in Newton, MA on May 7, 1917, the second daughter of Chauncey and Millie (Rogers) Waldron. After the birth of her brother Chan in 1918, her mother Millie died from the flu (epidemic). The following year her father married Ruth Alden and together they raised Ruthie, Mary and Chan and had two other children, Ted and Paul. The family eventually built a summer home in Maine where they spent many adventurous summers and she continued to return to Maine with family and friends from California and beyond...

Daylong family celebration of the historic gold rush town of Murphys CA and its Irish heritage, Saturday, March 16. 8-11 a.m.: Pancake Breakfast, Congregational Church. 10 a.m. – 5 p.m.: Festivities will include live entertainment, arts and craft vendors, pony rides, a wide variety of foods and beverages, and a raffle with a trip to Ireland as grand prize. At 11 a.m. a parade featuring bagpipes, marching groups, horses and other animals, classic cars, a circus wagon with calliope and much more will make its way down Main Street. Irish Day is presented each year by the Murphys Business Association. There is no admission charge. Parking and shuttle service is available at Ironstone Vineyards on Six Mile Road. Dedication of Buena Vista Cemetery in Murphys

Murphys, Ca...On Saturday March 9 at 11AM, the NSGW and the NDGW unveiled a plaque, installed on the pillars at the entry to the cemetery, dedicating Buena Vista Cemetery. The cemetery holds the remains of many of the original pioneers of the area and their descendants, with the earliest gravestone having a date of 1855 although there may have been burials earlier...

Renner Wines Celebrates New Tasing Room with an "Up from the Ashes Party" and Tasting Room Centerpiece Restored

Murphys, CA...Last Saturday night Renner Wines held their “Up from the Ashes” party to celebrated the opening of their new tasting room location. It was a great night that not only were they able to quickly get a new tasting room open so quickly after the fire but for other reasons as well. One of the central features of their old tasting room and one of Dr. Renner's prized possessions was a painting he had commissioned of his wife many years ago. It was lost in the fire. This was a deeply felt loss for Dr. Renner. To the rescue can longtime part of the Renner Wines family Lydia Stafford. When she was helping get the old tasting room up and running she had taken a high rez photo of the painting. She called Eric Cagliaro from Custom Vinyl Applications and a very special reproduction was made. The new “painting” even has texture and depth so that when it was unveiled for Dr. Renner their wasn't a dry eye in the room...
