James Orr Taaffe died of cancer July 25 surrounded by family at his Angel’s Camp home. The 73-year-old was a fourth-generation Californian and the great-great-grandson of Martin Murphy Jr., whose brothers, John and Daniel, founded the town of Murphys during the gold rush. While his ancestors may have discovered their life’s fortune in the gold fields, Mr. Taaffe considered family and friends his lucky strike. MACTA Announces Start of Murphys Tennis Court Refurbishing

Murphys CA....The Murphys Area Community Tennis Association (MACTA) has begun the restoration of Murphys much used public tennis courts located behind the historic schoolhouse on Jones St. With the help of the Vallecito Conservation Camp the surrounding area has been cleared of brush and the French drain cleaned and re-covered. On July 18, the Saviano Company of Mountain View began resurfacing the courts. The company has been recognized as experts in tennis court paving since 1963.....

Murphys, CA.....The 18th Annual Duck Races took place today in Murphys Community Park on Algiers Street in Murphys. There were 5 separate Races, 2 kids races and 3 Adult races. The Ducks were dumped into the creek off of the bridge into Murphys Creek. The Rubber ducks made their way down the creek into Murphys Community park. The first 3 ducks to cross the .....

Murphys is Home for Thirteen Chinese University Students!

Murphys, CA.....USA is home to thirteen University Students who are on a study program from China from July 11- 27. Their local coordinator is Debbie Rocco who was first introduced to the international program two years ago when they contacted her to bring that years' students on a tour of Michelson Elementary School where she works as special events coordinator. The students range from 19-24 and are living with 5 .....
