Calaveras County Walker, Ric Ryan , Receives Quilt of Honor! |

Valley Springs, CA...Saturday Morning the parking lot in front of Hawgs Dawgs in Valley Springs was filled with motorcycles, booths and more. They were there for the Quilts of Honor Motorcycle Run. The local Quilts of Honor Organization is spearheaded by Gail Belmont a local veteran who was very active in the "Quilts of Valor" organization before starting "Quilts of Honor" Quilts of Honor focuses on giving quilts to honor those who have been wounded in the service of their county or are seeking to help those who have. One of those honored was Murphys resident Ric Ryan. He is reaching his 2,771 mile goal of walking the distance from Calaveras County to Washington DC. For every mile he has walked he has raised money for "Operation Mend" who helps veterans with disfiguring facial injuries...

Murphys Resident, Denise Marjorie Pratt Garrett died peacefully after a brave battle with leukemia on Friday, October 29, 2010. She was 80. A native of Piedmont, California, Mrs. Garrett was born September 26, 1930 and graduated from Piedmont High in 1948. She was married for 57 years to Gerry Wendell Garrett, who preceded her in death in 2009. ....

| Samuel James Wiens, 79, of Murphys, died peacefully on November 1, 2010, following complications of cardiac arrest. He was born to the late Jacob and Mary Wiens, on May 6, 1931, in Dallas, Oregon. Sam was a teacher in San Jose until his retirement in 1990. At that time Sam and his wife, Ruby, moved to Murphys where he has enjoyed being involved in many activities including serving at the Chapel in the Pines; participating in SIRS, Do Wooders, and Links Fellowship. .... |

Avery, CA...One of the prettiest, yet one of the most challenging race events on the Ebbetts Pass corridor this year was held at Avery Middle School this morning. This was the 2nd annual RUN 4 MUSIC and just like last year, the Vallecito Music Boosters and the Vallecito Union School District teamed up to bolster funds for the district's 5th-8th grade music program at schools on the Ebbetts Pass Corridor...
