Senate Amendments to the Budget ~ Congressman Tom McClintock

Washington, DC...Unsustainable government spending drives both taxes and debt. The budget resolution sets the spending architecture for the fiscal year. The House version provided for $200 billion of enforceable mandatory spending reductions over ten years and balanced within the decade. The Senate amendments gut these provisions, squandering the one opportunity Congress has each year to bring mandatory spending under control -- taking us another year closer to a sovereign debt crisis. This is tragic and I condemn it in the strongest terms.

Yosemite, CA...As part of its commitment to improve the visitor experience and ensure America’s national parks are protected in perpetuity, the National Park Service (NPS) is considering increases to fees at highly visited national parks during peak visitor seasons. Proposed peak season entrance fees and revised fees for road-based commercial tours would generate badly needed revenue for improvements to the aging infrastructure of national parks. This includes roads, bridges, campgrounds, waterlines, bathrooms, and other visitor services.

Sacramento, CA...California Attorney General Xavier Becerra today issued the following statement after the U.S. District Court for the Northern District of California denied an emergency motion filed by California and a coalition of attorneys general to compel the federal government to continue to pay the Affordable Care Act (ACA) cost-sharing subsidies that lower healthcare costs while the case is litigated in court. While the court declined to enter an emergency order, the case will continue, and the States will press for a permanent resolution of their lawsuit to require the Administration to resume making the payments in compliance with the law.
