Calaveras County Reaches Settlement Agreement of $25,400,000 with PG&E for 2015 Butte Fire Damages

San Andreas, CA...Today, the Calaveras County Board of Supervisors agreed to settle the County’s claims against PG&E for damages suffered as a result of the 2015 Butte Fire. After more than two and a half years of information exchange, expert analysis, litigation, and mediation, both PG&E and the County have accepted a “mediator’s proposal” of $25,400,000 for all County claims and liabilities arising from the 2015 Butte Fire. The parties attended three substantive mediations, and after the final day of mediation, JAMS mediator Michael Ornstil made the mediator’s proposal.

Sacramento, CA...Governor Edmund G. Brown Jr. today requested a Presidential Major Disaster Declaration to bolster the ongoing emergency response and help residents recover from devastating fires burning in Butte, Los Angeles and Ventura counties. Also today, Governor Brown joined leaders of the Governor’s Office of Emergency Services, CAL FIRE, California National Guard and the California Highway Patrol at the State Operations Center in Mather to provide an update on firefighting efforts.

Brown Jr. today announced that the White House has approved California’s request for a Presidential Major Disaster Declaration, submitted yesterday, to bolster the ongoing emergency response and help residents recover from devastating fires burning in Butte, Los Angeles and Ventura counties.
San Andreas, CA...Election results have been updated. There are roughly 800 ballots in our office left to count. This includes vote by mails received in the mail today, provisional, and CVR ballots. The final results will be certified no earlier than November 20th and no later than December 6th.
Sacramento, CA...Governor Edmund G. Brown Jr. issued the following statement in response to the shooting last night in Thousand Oaks, California: “Our hearts ache today for the victims of this heinous act and our deepest condolences are with the Thousand Oaks community and those who lost friends and loved ones. We are grateful for law enforcement and others, including Ventura County Sheriff’s Sgt. Ron Helus, who took heroic action to save lives last night.”

Sacramento, CA...California Governor’s Office of Emergency Services Director Mark Ghilarducci early Friday morning secured a Fire Management Assistance Grant (FMAG) from the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) to help ensure the availability of vital resources to suppress the Woolsey Fire burning in Ventura and Los Angeles Counties. The FMAG also enables local, state and tribal agencies to recover eligible costs.
Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg Suffers Three Broken Ribs in Fall

Washington, DC...Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg fell in her office at the Court last evening. She went home, but after experiencing discomfort overnight, went to George Washington University Hospital early this morning. Tests showed that she fractured three ribs on her left side and she was admitted for observation and treatment. Updates will be provided as they become available.
