WEEKLY ADDRESS: Working Together in the New Year to Move America Forward

Posted by: John_Hamilton on 12/31/2011 07:18 AM
Honolulu, HI...Hello, everybody. As 2011 comes to an end and we look ahead to 2012, I want to wish everyone a happy and healthy New Year. The last year has been a time of great challenge and great progress for our country. We ended one war and began to wind down another. We dealt a crippling blow to al-Qaeda and made America more secure. We stood by our friends and allies around the world through natural disasters and revolutions. And we began to see signs of economic recovery here at home, even as too many Americans are still struggling to get ahead....

Weekly Address: Honoring Those Who Served in Iraq

Posted by: John_Hamilton on 12/17/2011 07:53 AM
Washington, DC...Remarks of President Barack Obama's Weekly Address. The White House, December 17, 2011. This week marked an historic moment in the life of our country and our military. For nearly nine years, our nation has been at war in Iraq. More than 1.5 million Americans have served there with honor, skill, and bravery. Tens of thousands have been wounded. Military families have sacrificed greatly – none more so than the families of those nearly 4,500 Americans who made the ultimate sacrifice. All of them – our troops, veterans, and their families – will always have the thanks of a grateful nation....

How Did We Get Here? Indefinite Detentions of American Citizens Without Trial?

Posted by: John_Hamilton on 12/15/2011 06:16 AM
WASHINGTON – The White House yesterday announced that it will support passage of the National Defense Authorization Act (NDAA), which contains harmful provisions that some legislators have said could authorize the U.S. military to pick up and imprison without charge or trial civilians, including American citizens, anywhere in the world. The final version of the NDAA was agreed to earlier this week by House and Senate conferees....

"Progress" Made on General Plan Yesterday ~By John Hamilton

Posted by: John_Hamilton on 12/14/2011 02:31 PM
San Andreas, CA...The Calaveras County Board of Supervisors gave direction to keep the Water Element and the Economic Component of Calaveras County's General Plan moving forward with some adjustments to both. In what has been a seemingly endless multi-year process with countless hours and untold cost Calaveras County is inching forward with progress on it's general plan. This is a necessary process to make sure that Calaveras County can show the state and other agencies that we have plans in place for a myriad of county functions and eventualities...

Stop the Internet Blacklist Legislation...This is a Very Real Threat to Free Speech!

Posted by: John_Hamilton on 12/12/2011 05:17 PM
Washington, DC...The following is from the EFF on the very real threat to Freedom of the Press and Freedom of Speech under the guise of The Internet Blacklist Legislation - known as PROTECT IP Act in the Senate and Stop Online Piracy Act (SOPA) in the House - is a threatening sequel to last year's COICA Internet censorship bill. Like its predecessor, this legislation invites Internet security risks, threatens online speech, and hampers Internet innovation. Urge your members of Congress to reject this Internet blacklist campaign in both its forms!

Presidential Weekly Address: "Ensuring a Fair Shot for the Middle Class"

Posted by: John_Hamilton on 12/10/2011 07:54 AM
Washington, DC...Remarks of President Barack Obama. As Prepared for Delivery, The White House, Saturday, December 10, 2011. Today, America faces a make-or-break moment for the middle class. After the worst economic crisis of our lifetimes, some still want to return to the same policies that got us into this mess. They’re the same policies that have stacked the deck against working Americans for too long. They’re part of a philosophy that says we’re better off when everyone is left to fend for themselves and play by their own rules...
