Angels Camp Business Association Weighs in on Visitors Center ~By Bob Menary

Posted by: thepinetree on 08/30/2010 12:24 AM
Angels Camp, CA...Dear Mayor Lynch and Council Members: I am writing on behalf of the Angels Camp Business Association Board of Directors and our eighty member businesses to urge the City Council to do everything in its power to keep the Calaveras Visitors Bureau’s Visitors Center in historic downtown Angels Camp. The Visitors Center serves as a magnet for visitors and residents alike. It attracts visitors to the county to stop at the rest area and to visit the Center’s shop. It expects nearly 13,000 visitors in the Center this year alone. Many of those visitors then take the time to walk up and down Main Street to shop, dine, view the historic buildings and read the Jumping Frog plaques. We believe that without the Center and its services, most of those visitors will not come into Angels Camp, much less stop to shop and dine...

Mark Twain is Back! Festival to unveil an unpublished volume of his autobiography October 15th & 16th, 2010.....Tickets Still Available!

Posted by: thepinetree on 08/30/2010 02:15 PM
One hundred thirty-four years after he departed California and sailed East to transform American literature, Samuel Langhorne Clemens (Mark Twain) is returning to the Pacific Slope. This year, 2010, is the centennial year of Clemens’s death, his 175th birthday, and the 125th anniversary of the American publication of “Adventures of Huckleberry Finn.” The setting for this uniquely Californian tribute to the master of American letters will be Angels Camp, Calaveras County. It’s a place still remarkably like what Twain experienced, of oak-studded hills, forests of pines, streams and rivers, of sturdy brick and rock buildings, and, today, of vineyards and award-winning wineries.....

Standing Room Only For CVB Finance Committee Meeting

Posted by: thepinetree on 08/30/2010 05:34 PM
Angels Camp, CA...It was standing room for the Calaveras County Visitors Bureau item for the finance committee this afternoon. The topic brought out the big guns of local business and tourism to extol the virtues of keeping the Visitors Center in downtown. Greenhorn Creek, Chamber of Commerce, Branding Committee, Angels Camp Business Association, Property Owners, Tourism Guiding Lights from the past like Barden Stevenot, Supervisor Tom Tryon, and on and on. The central issue was a large enough rent increase that would have forced the Visitors Center to move...

49th Annual Angels Camp Fireman Fun Day…Emphasis on Fun ~ By, Charity Maness

Posted by: Kim_Hamilton on 08/29/2010 06:01 PM
Angels Camp, CA.....The 49th annual Angels Camp Fire Department Fireman’s Fun Day was definitely a ‘fun day’ that had something for everyone. When the families entered the park, the first sight to behold were two massive inflatable bouncy rooms packed with extremely happy laughing children and an inflatable ladder and slide duo that saw nonstop usage. But the bouncy houses were just the beginning of the fun to be had. ....

Living With Grief? There is Hope and You are not Alone. ~ By Michael Milward

Posted by: thepinetree on 08/28/2010 08:57 AM
Our community has suffered from many significant losses in the past year, months and weeks. I am writing at the request of John and Kim in an effort to support those in our community who are grieving. There is, of course, so much to say on this topic, and so little space and time within which to make the effort to say it....
