Bear Valley, CA...Although we are more than 30 air miles away from the large fire next to Yosemite, the air quality here is poor. We are recommending unathletic activities like shopping, dining or driving instead of mtn biking, hiking and kayaking. The smoke sometimes lifts a bit in the afternoon. Call us for more up-to-date info at 209-753-2834. Events have changed. The 21st Annual Bear Valley Triathlon (normally Sunday of Labor Day Weekend) has been rescheduled to Sunday, September 22, 2013. The Ebbetts Pass Century (normally the 3rd Saturday in August) has been rescheduled to Saturday, September 28th. The Soap Box Derby has been cancelled, but will return next Labor Day weekend 2014. The Endeavor Challenge, scheduled for September 6-8, 2013 is still on, pending improvement in the smoke situation...
Sierra Nevada Logging Museum's 18th Annual Logging Jamboree Is On For Saturday

Arnold, CA... On August 31st, the Saturday of Labor Day, we are holding our 18th Annual Logging Jamboree. Amateur instruction and competition starts at 9:00 AM and the professionals will begin about noon. Great food, games, raffle, silent auction, we hope a run of our Shay on its short track, tours, and much more. Great day of fun and for only $5.00 per person.

Dorrington, CA...During the afternoon of August 27th a 77 year old Bear Valley man was was traveling in his 2003 Mercedes westbound on State Route 4 west ot Boards Crossings Road at approximately 50~55 mph, Party l made en unsafe right (north) turn in vehicle l. Due to Party l making an unsafe turn he allowed his Mercedes to leave the westbound lane and enter the northbound shoulder. Consequently, the front end of vehicle collided with a tree in the northbound shoulder.

Bear Valley, CA...Bear Valley is currently in the direct path of smoke from the Rim Fire and, as a result, the air quality is not safe enough for children or adults alike to spend lengthy and active periods of time outside. Since our mission is to provide families with healthy opportunities that take advantage of our amazing Sierra surroundings, we cannot continue with an event that may provide unhealthy conditions....
