Arts of Bear Valley Calaveras Big Trees State Park Art Show and Sale 2013 |

Calaveras Big Trees, CA...Arts of Bear Valley is pleased to announce the opening of its 12th annual art show and sale at Calaveras Big Trees State Park on August 15. The show is held in the beautiful historic Jack Knight Memorial Hall. This lodge style structure was built in the 1930’s by the Civilian Conservation Corp and accommodates many park and private events. The show featuring over 25 oil, watercolor, acrylic Calaveras artists as well as expert photographers will be open daily from 10 am to 4 pm through Labor Day weekend. One of the artists will be on hand to answer questions at all times. Artist members have won numerous awards, hung works in museums and been collected by art lovers worldwide. Prints and note cards will be on sale as well as original art.

Bear Valley, CA...Dear family and friends, It is with deep sadness that I write to inform you of the passing of Denali and Marty on K2. Though considered by the climbing community to be some of the world's most respected mountaineers, the mountain's powerful conditions do not discriminate. As Marty would say, “The mountain chooses your path.” Though Marty described K2 as magical and majestic, the mountain decided to make it their final resting place as they were taken by an avalanche while sleeping together in their tent at camp 3 during the night of July 26. Marty could not help but express his pride in his son as Denali led the way on their climb with skill beyond his age. Denali was so happy to be by his side, sharing their passion for climbing together as a father-son team. Every time Denali called he was overflowing with the beauty he had experienced there....

Angels Camp, CA...As you and your child plan and shop for the items on your “Back to School” list, think carefully about that new back pack. To avoid injury, choose a backpack that is the appropriate size for the back it needs to fit. Select a pack with well-padded shoulder straps to prevent too much pressure from being placed on the neck and shoulders. A proper fitting backpack should rest evenly in the middle of the back, with both straps placed on the shoulders. Straps should be snug, but not overly tight; basically, the strap should be easy to take on and off but not allow the pack to hang more than 4 inches below the waist. If the backpack comes with a waist belt, it should be worn to help distribute the weight more evenly...
