Winter Storm Warning with Periods of Heavy Snow & Winds Through Friday Night

Arnold, CA...The next winter storm will bring periods of heavy snow and strong wind to the mountains of interior Northern California. Heaviest snow is expected Thursday afternoon through Friday afternoon, with periods of whiteout conditions likely. An additional 1 to 4 feet of snow accumulation is possible above 3000 feet with 3 to 5 feet at pass levels through Friday night. Snow levels will remain around 2000 to 3000 feet across the northern mountains, and 3000 to 4000 feet across the west slopes of the Northern Sierra.

Arnold, CA....A series of cold winter storms will bring periods of heavy snow and gusty winds to the foothills and mountains of interior NorCal later this week. Snow may begin as early as Wednesday afternoon and continue through the weekend. Several feet of snowfall accumulation is expected in the mountains with up to a foot possible across some foothill locations. Portions of the northern Sacramento Valley, including Redding, may see accumulating snow Thursday night and Friday. Any planning travel across the foothills or mountains later this week should stay in touch with the latest forecasts.

Arnold, CA...Heavy Snow Possible Over The Mountains through Friday. A cold Pacific storm system is forecast to move through interior NorCal later today through Friday. Snow levels will lower rapidly with this storm, dropping to 3000 to 4000 feet tonight and 2500 to 3500 feet on Friday. In addition, gusty winds during the storm may bring poor visibilities.

Special Weather Statement From NWS Sacramento...A Change to a Wet Weather Pattern this Week...

Sacramento, CA....Several storms will move through the region this week and early next week. The first storm will have high snow levels near major trans-sierra pass levels or higher for most of the storm and rainfall amounts will be relatively light. A stronger system with lowering snow levels is expected Wednesday night through Friday of this week. More precipitation is expected with this system with several inches of snow possible at pass levels. A third and possibly still stronger weather system is forecast to move through northern California early next week.

Arnold, CA...The National Weather Service Forecast for the West Slope Northern Sierra Nevada is as follows: Today Rain at lower elevations...and rain and snow at higher elevations. Highs 36 to 51 higher elevations...48 to 54 lower elevations. No snow accumulation lower elevations...2 to 4 inches higher elevations. Snow level 7000 feet increasing to above 8000 feet in the afternoon. Prevailing south winds 5 to 15 mph with gusts to around 30 mph. Tonight Rain at lower elevations...and rain and snow at higher elevations. Lows 29 to 44 higher elevations...42 to 50 lower elevations. No snow accumulation lower elevations...1 to 7 inches higher elevations. Snow level above 8000 feet. Prevailing south winds 10 to 20 mph.

Sacramento, CA...From the National Weather Service..."The key to the storm door for northern California may have been found with the first in a series of weather systems expected to move into northern California late today and tonight. Another system will move through the north state late Friday into Saturday. Neither of these systems is expected to contain a lot of rainfall or high elevation snow but most of Norcal should get some precipitation. After a brief break, more possibly wetter systems are expected early next week."

Arnold, CA....Ladies & Gents we actually have a storm system approaching....West Slope Northern Sierra Nevada. Today Partly cloudy. Highs 39 to 54 higher elevations...50 to 60 lower elevations. Prevailing south winds up to 15 mph. Gusts up to 30 mph in the afternoon. Tonight At lower elevations, a slight chance of rain showers in the evening, then rain showers and heavy snow showers after midnight. At higher elevations, a slight chance of snow showers in the evening, then snow showers after midnight. Colder. Lows 21 to 36 higher elevations...33 to 41 lower elevations. No snow accumulation lower elevations...3 to 5 inches higher elevations. Snow level 6000 feet decreasing to 5000 feet after midnight. Prevailing south winds 10 to 20 mph with gusts to around 40 mph... Except southwest 20 to 40 mph over ridges.
