Local 8th Grader Headed to State Science Fair.....Still A Little Short of His Goal

Calaveras County, CA...Update 4/28/11: Michael has received some very generous donations from our viewers! The family is so thankful! "I am so excited for him, what a wonderful opportunity he has before him and with his drive to do the best he can, hopefully he will place during the state competition. He is going to go back to the IGA in Copperopolis again tomorrow with his project to answer questions and share what he has discovered. Hopefully by the end of the day he will have reached his goal , he has a baseball game on Saturday morning" States Michael's Grandmother, Cindi Bent.....Local 8th grader, Michael Legge is headed to the State Science Fair! Michael won 1st place at the Calaveras County Science Fair in his division with his project "Mysterious Bacteria vs. Evil Tobacco." Michael is a student at Mark Twain Elementary and needs our help! Here is a letter from Michael: "Hello my name is Michael Legge and I am an 8th grade student at Mark Twain Elementary School. Mark Twain doesn't require students to do science fair projects but I went out and did one on my own. .....

In Loving Memory of Vern L. Cuneo 1928~2011

San Andreas, CA...Lifelong San Andreas resident Vern L. Cuneo passed away at his home on January 6, 2011. The former grocery man had lived in Calaveras County for 82 years. He was born in Calaveritas on May 12th, 1928 and was part of the Cuneo family that has been a large part of Calaveras History. The lifelong resident of Calaveras County Served in the U.S. Navy from 1948-1952 he served 3 1/2 Yrs. As a Fire Controlleman 3rd class aboard the U.S. Aircraft carrier Franklin D. Roosevelt...

Central Fire Responds to Structure Fire During Inclement Weather Conditions

Mountain Ranch, CA....On December 7th, 2009, Central fire was dispatched to a possible flue fire at 59555 Old Emigrant Trail West. While en route, all responding units had inclement weather problems due to heavy snow accumulations. They were unable to make access up the driveway due to heavy snow. When they arrived on scene they found a single story log style home approximately 1500sf in size, fully involved with fire. Crews preceded to make a hose lay to extinguish the fire. Crews were only able to make minimal progress due to lack of water supply. The supporting units shuttled water to the fire. The fire was a total loss to the structure. No life was lost in the incident. All.....
