Rail Road Flat, CA...David Lorence Simpson January 21, 1941 ~ October 17, 2021 (age 80). David was born in Alhambra, California to Marjorie and Lloyd Simpson. The family moved to Rail Road Flat, California when David was about three years old. The hard working family established the 7S Ranch and a saw mill on the property. David attended the Rail Road Flat Elementary School and graduated from Calaveras High School in San Andreas in 1961. After graduation, David worked for a crane company in Stockton as a parts runner and security night watchman. After being laid off in 1986, he came home to live with his brother Russell on their family ranch in Rail Road Flat.

The upstairs was home to the Sender family, and the first floor included groceries, a meat market, a bar, and a small eating place called Opa’s Smokehouse. On Christmas morning in 1968, the old store was destroyed by fire. But in June 1969, Sender’s Market, Inc. was opened. Since that time, there have been many changes, including remodeling, expansion, and the addition of many employees. That’s also when we added the truss plant and purchased Sender’s Market Ace Hardware in Valley Springs. Today, we’re still family owned and still working hard to stock everything from pantry essentials to power tools. Arnold, CA...Well we won't call it a storm door opening so how about we call it a storm mail slot? It doesn't look to be enough moisture to end the fire season or put a dent in the drought but we will gladly take it. Forecasts for the West Slope and Mother Lode from the National Weather Service are below...
