West Point, CA...(Update...The California Highway Patrol San Andreas Area has received confirmation Brittany Rafferty, 16, from West Point succumbed to her injuries sustained as a passenger in a traffic collision on June 1, 2015, SR-26, east of Sandy Gulch Lane. Our office received confirmation from the Stanislaus County Coroner’s Office via telephone that Ms. Rafferty died on June 2, 2015 at Memorial Medical Center in Modesto. The investigation and cause of the collision is continuing.) On June 1st, 2015, at approximately 1605 hours, Party 1 (P-1) (Stinnett) was driving Vehicle 1 (V-1) (Chevrolet Monte Carlo) eastbound on SR-26 east of Sandy Gulch Road at approximately 55 miles per hour. P-1 and the right front passenger were wearing their lap and shoulder safety restraints. All three of the rear passengers were unrestrained. P-1 realized she had traveled into the opposing lane. P-1 turned V-1 back to the right abruptly and lost control of the vehicle. V-1 traveled off the paved portion of the roadway where the right front of V-1 struck a large tree. V-1 came to rest facing a westerly direction on the south shoulder of the roadway. Two passengers were transported by air ambulance to various hospitals. One passenger was transported by ground ambulance to a local hospital. One passenger and the driver were transported to local hospitals by family members. Alcohol and/or drugs are not believed to be a factor in this collision.
