Participating in the ceremony were District 5 Supervisor Russ Thomas, and Lucy Thein, President of the Board of Directors of Habitat for Humanity Calaveras, Gary Tofanelli, Supervisor Candidate even made an appearance....

Copperopolis, CA....A large crowd showed up this morning for the Ribbon Cuttings of several new businesses that are officially opening their doors today in the new Copperopolis Town Square. Supervisor Russ Thomas started things off with a great rendition of America The Beautiful and Castle & Cook's Dave Haley introduced the business owners and laid out plans for the new center. They include a specialty grocery store, wine tasting, several restaurants, a coffee and wine bar that will open soon, a Shell gas station & car wash, MTSJ is opening a complete 14,000 sq ft. medical clinic, Two Hotels and many more specialty retail...

San Andreas, CA...After a round of public meetings, including a study session with the Calaveras County Board of Supervisors, and much public dialogue we can report the following to you. We confirmed that the Building Department changed the way they “interpret” our current Fire and Life Safety Code mid year 2007. They were strongly challenged for taking this new position and we did have some limited success in softening the impact. Where the mitigation since 1992 was to pave the driveway, that is no longer the rule of the land....

Bear Valley, CA...We attended a the first of two scoping sessions on the plans for improvements to Bear Valley Mountain Resort. The Short List...A new High Speed Quad to replace Super Cub and lower the loading area, A new Dining Facility at Bear Top, Run Enhancements to Home and Lunch Runs, The new High Speed Quad Village Lift, 600 new acres of novice to intermediate terrain on the new "Front Side". They held a public meeting yesterday and there will be a second one next Sunday. BVMR has been working closely with the Forest Service to get their plans solidified and ready for public comment. The plans will go under review after the 30 day public comment period and analyzing the feedback from the public. If everything goes well construction on some of these projects could begin as soon as next summer...

Recycled Building Materials Now Available Through Habitat for Humanity

San Andreas, CA...Recycled Building Materials Now Available at Habitat for Humanity. They are opening a warehouse Saturday, May 3 from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. at 172 California Street, San Andreas next to Brawner Automotive and Herd’s Welding. Items for sale include recycled building materials, nuts and bolts, light fixtures, large household items, and lots more at bargain prices. The Habitat Warehouse will be open the first Saturday of every month with a grand opening scheduled for June 7. Donations are accepted. Call Lucy Thein, 754-1518, to schedule a delivery. All proceeds from the Warehouse sales go toward building affordable housing in Calaveras County.....

"Dueling Documents"...The Ray Waller Saga Continues...Let the Disclosures Begin

San Andreas, CA....The Ray Waller Saga has erupted into the pages of local newspapers and onto the web yet again. The Stockton Record and the Calaveras Enterprise initiated public records requests to get additional details on the events surrounding Mr. Waller's dismissal. We have also been forwarded additional documents from Mr. Waller in response to the county documents. This is probably just the start of disclosures in this case. We understand that efforts may be made in the next week to release into the public record additional documentation on this case as well. This is a case that just seems will not go away...
