Our Veterans deserve the best. Our Government doesn't do anything well other than Kill people and break things. There are 6.5 million vets under V.A. care and it is a disaster. Now they want to control the health care for over 300 million. NO THANK YOU COMMRADE.

It is NOT a disaster. George W. Bush was a disaster! Don't let a few hysterical complainers run you out of town. Why not compare the problems at the VA with those at General Motors?

Not all of the VA Facilities are the same. Many have very poor records of treatment, poor sanitary conditions and more. Our Vets should be receiving the absolute best in all types of care from health care, educational opportunities, housing and more.

Our government just treats them like "Disposable Heroes". Sad but true.

I agree that we treat our veterans as disposable gi units. They deserve the best treatment that we can give them, along with enhanced benefits packages such as the GI bill after WWII. We should cut the war departments budget in half and put the savings into our veterans benefits programs.

When my mom was ill in her old age, Medicare was a godsend. Home nurses showed us how to care for her and came once a week to keep tabs on her recovery. It helped with medical equipment we needed. It provided a physical therapist so she could walk again. Thank goodness for Medicare and for the fine professionals who helped us through those very dark days.

Obama is the Commander-in-Chief and all good vets would respect that, regardless of their personal feelings. The man was elected by the American people- twice, and deserves our respect.
He came into office confronting a disaster as bad as what Roosevelt faced in 1933 and has turned the mess around. You complainers who have only slowed progress should be ashamed of yourselves.

I like how the VA is a universal health care system and yet no one realizes it is. A lot of those old farts who hate on universal health care are receiving it at the same time, ahh Murica at it's finest.

A lot of those old farts don't belong going to the VA. Aint nothing wrong with them but they are old. Let em go to regular doctors and leave the VA to deal with the new generation of severely wounded.

Very true. I have benefitted from the VA services for 10 years, nothing major, but I am proud to be in their care. The VA is a massive organization with problems like any of that size, including the corporate world. Have you spent as much time criticizing General Motors?

Yea, it is universal, and if you we're paying attention, or could pay attention, we vets could inform you about how bad the services are, just as those that understand health care, tried to warn us about the mess that we would have if we we're all dragged into this system! It's universal, and it doesn't work for the most part! GET IT!

VA care

In 1979 I crawled into the VA Hospital in Martinez, CA with no ligaments but 1 remaining in my left knee due to a fall while fishing in the Sierras. They stuck me in a bed with me still thinkng of take two pills and call back in the morning. The next day they opened my leg up and a resident went to work (he later worked as the cutter for SD Chargers). After two-three weeks they cast me and set me loose. Some weeks later they put me in a moveable cast ..... five or six months later that got pulled and they set me loose. Cost to me? 20 months in Viet Nam. Was I satisfied? Yep. It has been 35 years and while the joint has gotten "sloppy" requiring a brace at times it is a lot better than my options without the 1979 VA.

What we currently are seeing is employees attempting to steal from the employer .... a common problem in what American Capitalism has grown into ...PEOPLE EATING THEIR YOUNG.

The answer is proper supervision and oversight and prison sentences for scofflaws who are convicted. I am sure laws cover this behavior.

I use the va health care system, and have had to jump through the hoops to get what I earned! I have never received a final decision on health related items that I incurred during my time in Vietnam Nam, ie: serious hearing issues, PTSD issues, an issue with my prostrate that my DR. Had been monitoring, but had never told that my PSA count was in a dangerous range! Driving to to Livermoore or Palo Alto is a tremendous hardship, espescially as you get older, and for me I have a full time job, and to get off to go to these places is hard to do! The office people in Livermoore are often rude, and when I read the motto of the VA "We put veterans first" , I have to chuckle, I haven't really seen it that way for the most part! The VA serves a purpose, but I feel there needs to be some exceptions in their delivery, one being, if you have to leave the area to drive to the Bay Area, you get a voucher to have it taken care of locally! Illegals, Gitmo terrorists, don' t even have to go through all of this monkey business to get served, why do veterans have too?

Hospitals organized for dealing with the problems that veterans face is the best way to deal with those issues. They need to be managed better.
